////Why is it that everytime I write afew words I'm assumed to be 'attacking'…////
Ah well - maybe I called it an 'attack' (in inverted commas) because /you/ did in your earlier post. But I agree it wasn't one. It was only a flawed argument you posed to these pople, whoever they were.
Speaking of which: Who are Eleora and DocTurner? I hope this ignorance doesn’t demonstrate an embarrassing gap in my general knowledge.
Ok - I dare a random guess: cheese-boarders…?
/////For example, every time I use Astrology and get the result correct it is as much a surprise to me than to the recipient - in fact its even MORE of a surprise!///
Yes I can imagine.... ;D
That reminds me: I just posted a ‘special’ blog for you on ‘rebellious jukebox’......
////The usage of the assumption 'need to believe in God/Buddha/whatever is a false one.////
Tell that to the theists who use the phrase regularly. /I/ quite agree: There really is /no/ ‘need’ for god.....
////….and what is science or communism if not a belief system?////
Communism /or/ science....? As in science and communism being /equal/ concepts of ‘belief’…?
Priceless! An absolute gem! ;D
In /total/ contradiction to what you said before, about science, about homosexuality, about ‘nature vs nurture’ etc etc, but never mind that! It’s hilarious!
Oh and…yeah I admit I /do/ ‘believe’ in (biological) genes, and in DNA.....but err not in the ‘communist gene’, I’m afraid.....
////- yet on countless occasions these self same people are busy reading 'self help books' and on one occasion evangelically enthusing about some pulp entitled 'Men are from Mars, Women from Venus.///
Excellent. There might be no pigeonhole for you, but at least there’s one left for ‘these self same people’. Lucky coincidence or what.
////I am honour bound to support the true underdog.////
;D
In that case there is plenty of work for you to do out there, in politics and the community, and you must be a /very/ busy man indeed.
Who says altruism and heroism are dead eh?
////Its very difficult debating against what appears to be an entire board. Yet she has to be the Winner by definition simply because she exudes an inner calm and serenity that arms the believer with an inner strength that the increasingly rabid detractors simply do not possess. Why else would the believer live longer and more peaceably than the nonbeliever if this was not the case. Of course that doesn't mean that she is necessarily right.////
I ain’t got a clue whom or what you are talking about. But maybe it’s just me, not being part of the incestuous board clan....
//// The Theism v Atheism debate is a hackneyed one. I can only waste time on such a pursuit.////
Don’t then. I ignore threads that don’t particularly interest me, or that I consider a ‘waste of time’ (....some I ignore because of a /lack/ of time).
Btw I would happily join in on the err ‘discussions’ that you find /really/ interesting, but unfortunately my knowledge of the latest (and past) events on the Cheese Board, is rather limited ie e non-existent. Believe me if I joined in I’d only spoil it for you with my ignorance. <mental note: /must/ review my priorities>
////One wonders why Porcine is so avid in this pursuit..it would be surprising if he were like me and even more surprising if there wasn't a hidden agenda behind his interests.////
Tsk – c’mon! Think about it: People like me play an essential part in the Christian concept of good and evil, and ‘Christ’s’ redemption. If there were no sinners, he would have died in vain....

Communism is nothing if not based on superstition and a belief system as the idolatry of Uncle Joe Stalin makes quite clear.
He accepted grandiloquent titles (e.g. "Coryphaeus of Science," "Father of Nations," "Brilliant Genius of Humanity," "Great Architect of Communism," "Gardener of Human Happiness," and others), and helped rewrite Soviet history to provide himself a more significant role.
In fact up untill the fall of Communism (obviously) the guards letting people visit and pay homage to Uncle Joes embalmed formaldehyde corpse lying "in state" it was treated exactly as if it were a Holy Relic. Several hundreds of Russians died in the rush to visit it.
An electric pump was installed inside Lenin's body to maintain a constant humidity. The order was to leave the door to the Mauseleum open at all times to allow Stalins 'spirit' to pass in and out. The doors were never closed. What more evidence do you need, Piccione?
It ceretainly sounds like a belief system to me, Piccolo. I can almost smell it from here!
As for Science being a belief system its a debate I've read and re-read too many times to mention. Certainly 'Scientism' is but then that would be like calling me a Christian!
Its debatable whether it is or it isnt a belief system..again pure semantics get us nowhere. - really who cares?
btw. Eleora is the Bible basher I'm frantically trying to bore batter you to death with - but as she says..why doesnt he come here then? Quite!

I never denied that communism was a belief system, or an ideology (gosh - no!). It was rather your communism and science equation (as belief systems) that I found so very funny.
But, incidentally, you have withdrawn that and replaced 'science' with ‘scientism’ - which is something I can agree with. I said on the Mismatch thread (several times) that ‘culture’ is a powerful (human) phenomenon that can override biological traits. Which does not mean those biological traits aren’t innately there.

Go where? And who is ‘he’?

<< Who are Eleora and DocTurner? I hope this ignorance doesn’t demonstrate an embarrassing gap in my general knowledge. >> No need for sarcasm but its a fair point. We have on occasion various Minstrels of varying quality passing through but its very very rare for someone to appear out of the blue and have some knowledge of the posters i.e. Gus and Sandy. Perhaps I made an assumption..its a form of shorthand due to the exigencies of time - esp. in the wee small hours! btw. any minstrel committing the cardinal sin of providing yet another rendition of either Greensleeves' or 'Stairway to Thine Heavenly Place' shall be put into the Madrigal stocks and pelted with rotten fruit (incl. old melons!). D.T. = Can mean Delirium Tremens Also used as abbv. for long pseudo intellectual discussion entwining existentialism, Wittgenstein, Sartre, Chomsky (not quite so bad) and other wind bags. When used in "Reality" falls down badly. The 7/7 bombing takes place. I say..its no problem ask the Bus driver. He say..its a wll known phenemona called 'Fugues Syndrome' (complete memory loss of previous events). I say its well know but is an exceedingly rare phenomena. My side of the debate is deleted - I protest and demand apology - its reinstalled. Eleora - she can be found on JSG. Thats not the point though. If someone has a strong belief system then its unwise to be judgemental of them, even if they are judgemental of others due to that belief system. In essence its a stalemate. Shorthand for the misguided belief that 'your way' is the 'only way'. It isn't!

This thread needs more levity.. When Stalin fell out of official favour in 1956, his body was removed from Red Square. However, officials were at a loss as to what to do with it.
Approaching the British ambassador, the Russians asked if Churchill's wartime ally could be interred in England. “Afraid not,” the ambassador said. “Karl Marx is buried in England, you know, and having two such eminent communists would be excessive.”
Turning to the East Germans, the Russians were refused by their ambassador as well. “We're still trying to live down Hitler. One dictator is quite enough.”
The response from the Italians was the same. Learning of the Soviet plight, and wishing to score some points with the Russian rulers, the Israeli ambassador offered to allow Stalin to be buried in his nation. “Nyet!” the Russians replied. “You people had a Resurrection once...” ...well for a "Russion Joke" its not bad? Is it?

I don’t mind them being judgmental of me. But I do mind when their belief system affects my life.
I have a distorted 'belief system' when it comes to smoking. Until it’s (probably) too late, I don’t (fully) accept that the negative consequences will affect /me/. I detach them from /current/ reality, because I’m healthy /now/. Yet I wouldn’t expect others (non-smokers) to share my view. I’m also fully acceptant of their protest against public smoking because it affects them.
It would be entirely different if non-smokers condemned my smoking without it having any impact on them whatsoever.

Is it? A lawyer, a surgeon, a builder and a communist were having an argument about whose trade was older. 'When God condemned Adam and Eve and exiled them from paradise,' said the lawyer, 'that was a legal act! So my profession is the oldest.' 'But please,' the surgeon said, 'before that God created Eve from Adam's rib. And that was a surgical operation! So my profession is older.' 'Forgive me,' said the builder, 'but a little bit earlier than that God created the world, he constructed it. So my profession is the oldest. Because as is known, there was only chaos before that.' 'And who created chaos?' the communist exclaimed triumphantly. 'Certainly, we communists!' So there we have the truth about the origin of the universe.

[Was Cho Seung-Hui schizophrenic … psychotic … manic-depressive? Or were the shooting deaths of 32 people, including Cho himself, at Virginia Tech University part of the ongoing struggle between God and Satan … good against evil … lightness and darkness? Could Cho have been possessed by the Devil? Could that explain the massacre at Virginia Tech? Dr. Richard Roberts, president of Oral Roberts University, shouts an unequivocal “Yes!” “Based on what I’ve seen in the news," Roberts said in an interview, "there’s no doubt that this act was Satanic in origin."] /JEZUS CHRIST/…! www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266860,00.html Ah yes – of course.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_Roberts_UniversityBut no need to worry.... www.associatedcontent.com/article/209660/150_graduates_of_pat_robertsons_college.htmlAs I said: The world is in safe hands....

The Ten Commandments of Google 1. Thou shalt have no other Search Engine before me, neither Yahoo nor Lycos, AltaVista nor Metacrawler. Thou shalt worship only me, and come to Google only for answers. 2. Thou shalt not build thy own commercial-free Search Engine, for I am a jealous Engine, bringing law suits and plagues against the fathers of the children unto the third and fourth generations. 3. Thou shalt not use Google as a verb to mean the use of any lesser Search Engine. 4. Thou shalt remember each passing day and use thy time as an opportunity to gain knowledge of the unknown. 5. Thou shalt honor thy fellow humans, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or race, for each has invaluable experience and knowledge to contribute toward humankind. 6. Thou shalt not misspell whilst praying to me. 7. Thou shalt not hotlink. 8. Thou shalt not plagiarise or take undue credit for other's work. 9. Thou shalt not use reciprocal links nor link farms, for I am a vengeful but fair engine and will diminish thy PageRank. The Google Dance shall cometh. 10.Thou shalt not manipulate Search Results. Search Engine Optimization is but the work of Microsoft. www.thechurchofgoogle.org/index.html

John Saunders (blog entry).....
[Two men are standing on a street corner, dressed in identical shirts except one has ID on the front of his shirt and the other has Evo on his. Both hold identical rubber ball in their hands, extended at arms length. Evo says, 'I believe if I release this ball it will fall and bounce because of the forces of gravity, liks so.' He releases the ball and it bounces and he catches it and makes aditional comments. 'To prove this was no fluke we will repeat the process under identical parameter and compare the results.' This he does a dozen times and the ball always falls and bounces back up. 'This is how science works.' He announced then stepped back. ID steps forward and say, 'My faith tells me that if I release this ball it will not fall or bounce and thereby prove Evo wrong, my faith in God and the Old testament book of Rubbermiah tells me this is so. In fact my faith is so strong I don't even have to drop the ball to prove my point and anyone who dares to question my belief is doomed to go to hell and burn in eternal damnation.' ID satisfied that he had made his point places the ball in his pocket and walks away, telling every one he meets along the way how he disproved Evo's believe in the laws of gravity, and that the very idea of gravity was doomed because of his proof.]
So true.... ;D
