Premier Fico commemorates fallen Czechoslovak RAF pilots in London
During his visit to the UK, Prime Minister Robert Fico honoured the 88 Czechoslovak pilots who died during the Battle of Britain, by laying a wreath at the respective war memorial in London on June 12.
The pilots, members of the Royal Air Force, were involved in defending Britain against German attacks that were meant to lead up to the invasion of the Britain.
The memorial, which features scenes of RAF fighter pilots and the blueprints of the famous Hurricane and Spitfire fighter planes, was unveiled by Prince Charles in 2005. At that time, Britain commemorated the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Britain along with living pilots.

We owe a debt of gratitude to East European fighter pilots of whom I've met a few..all in the Polish community. None of them actually flew but they were engineers etc. I didnt know that there were so many Czech/Slovak pilots...Sandy would like to welcome all of you to our country in gratitude. Apart from the err... What are the East Europeans we don't like called, Sandy? Rumanians/gypsies/ same difference really

When you drive through Romania, it is possible that they rob you. they used to dress up like policemen and stop your car and then steal everything you have.

'Only because they're the poorest'. There's no answer to that!

'Only because they're the poorest'. There's no answer to that! YES THERE IS. What happens when they become rich from robbing people? Why don't they stop when they have enough? Why did we not rob people in the fifties as much as we do now. We were much poorer then.

Yes I suppose I could take a more hardline approach, Sandy, but I'm not sure if its comparable to England circa 1950.
I'd imagine it to be similar to telling a bunch of gypsies to behave themselves and keep out of trouble. Er..not that ALL romanians are gypsies of course. If the Romanian Embassy are reading this..buzz off.

UN releases ground-breaking report on Slovak Roma
Ben Slay, Director of the UN Development Program's (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, has described their recent Report on the Living Conditions of Roma in Slovakia as providing "ground-breaking data on the debilitating cycle of poverty which traps so many Roma in Slovakia."
Released on June 12 in Brussels, the report is part of the efforts being made by the UNDP to acquire reliable information on poverty in Central and Eastern Europe.
The study was based on data from the Roma Household Survey 2005, which was carried out by the UNDP and the World Bank.
The selection of locations in which data was collected was based on the Sociographic Mapping of Roma Communities in Slovakia, which was carried out by the Office of the Plenipotentiary of Roma Communities in Slovakia.
Representing the most comprehensive survey of Roma households carried out in Slovakia to date, the report covers the following areas: living status and condition, health, income, expenditure, employment, education and social benefits.
The research showed that within the Roma population, there is a high rate of dependency on social assistance, with nearly three-quarters of households receiving some social benefits related to material need.
Nonetheless, Roma households continue to make less than full use of the benefits that the system offers. There is a very low rate of engagement in the labour market among the Roma population of productive age (11 percent for men and 5 percent for women). Eighty-six percent of members of the Roma population of productive age who do not work are registered at a labour office. Most unemployment is long-term, which leads to the loss of working skills.

Well the UN are obviously unaware of Picciones work on getting people off benefits and into work.
Of course we all want to work..mainly as TV presenters, Radio Announcers, Mobile DJs, 'something' in the Theatre, Modern Artist/Sculptor (with a degree in talking twaddle) and other worthwhile jobs.
When it comes to road sweeping, canteen cooks, sewage worker etc..ones enthusiasm for work droops slightly.
