Not to be confused with Global Warming of course. I dunno about the Ozone layer, accoridng to Ozonhole.com the worries are greatly exagerrated althought to be honest i havent a clue. I want to study this hole for myself. And after that I'll return to cricket balls. Theres your proof, Gus. Now the main priority according to them is to prevent developing nations such as China and India to dispense with refridgerators. So you get on a plane and tell them they aren't allowed to possess modern goods and gadgets that us westerners took for granted 50 yrs ago. And erm..good luck!

Gus, I don't understand your post....little surprise there, I have oft been called all manner of things, stupid being but one of them. Vegas, the Bush creature and Belgium and Sandy are all well? I hope. I was just pointing out that this very morning, on the Today program, we, the British public were told that the ozone layer was recovering due to our (human) efforts at banning various chemicals and thing, and that in 60 years time the hole would be healed. I was trying to make the point that if people listen to the conservationist element, and recycle, slow down on the exploitation of our natural resources, we might not be DOOOOMED, and have a viable future. ( I have no wish to talk to GWB - he is more of a fool than I) Sorry I did not mean to offend I was just trying to say that there is only a snowballs chance in Hell of "mending" the ozone layer ( i did read somewhere that it is already too late) when the likes of the USA use a quarter of the worlds energy recources. I do not think you are stupid Daz said that ;D anyway stupid is as stupid does. Forest Gump. gus I don't know about the snowballs chances, I was only commenting on the research that the bbc reported this morning....as for being stupid - nearest i could find to a shrug

Jolly good clues they are too Sandy. This morning they tell us the ozone quilt will be repaired in 60 years time - maybe we can do some things right once we realise the error of our ways? Unlike GW which is natural phenomena anyway in many peoples eyes..consider the mini-ice ages of the past and previous flutuations, ozone is something we can do something about. We've got rid of most harmful chemicals and if we could persuade communist 'self interested countries such as China to do the same we'd make much more progress. The factis that the Chinese are culturally insular and don't take much consideration of the world as a whole but thats Communism for you.

She maybe a tad eccentric Just a smidge! But wouldn't we all find life so dull without a little eccentricity? per example. this very day i thought to myself, i am fed up with Mr P ringing me from a phone box at 11.00 at night to let me know whether he needs to be fed, bedded etc...so I thought to myself, the walkie talkie thing didn't work, he won't have a landline, I know! I'll spend some of my ill gotten gains on two mobile phones with a provider that actually has some reception on the coast (well done Orange). What is his reaction? Can you take them back! NO i will not! you thoughtless Mr P you! errr... Daz is it ok to do domestics on this board? It's ok though - I explained to him that it would mean that he wouldn't need to trudge to a phone box in the dead of winter and that his mother could contact him... so he's agreed to keep it. Another electrical appliance thing that happened today....we needed a new espresso machine so Mr P was in charge of comparing and contrasting what the various shoppes had to offer...when we returned to his prefered choice, who was serving us, but my Bank Manager! Weird! And even weirder, when he worked as a Bank Manager he wore an earing, now he works in retail, he has taken it out ... ?

<< he worked as a Bank Manager he wore an earing, now he works in retail, he has taken it out ... ? >> Don't worry, its obligatory to be eccentric if you live in or near Cornwall. It isn't really part of the UK and as Lord Longleat of 'Wifelets' fame insists, you really should be an Independent country. I agree..the south east is weird pirate country for a city dweller. Having visiting the place twice I'm surprised ALL bank managers aren't obliged to wear earrings and ponytails and live in places called Mouse-hole. As for beards..well Mr. P has a beard and as i recall it I was one of the few who didnt have a long beard and loom like Kinf Arthur of Tintagel. ..in short the only ppl taken aback are tourists.

Clam down everyone. Why not paint them and earn money like CG in all actuality is far from being anywhere close to silly. None of us would be posting on here if it wasn't for her, and the same could be said for quite a few other places. When CG started her Artblog she received 40+ positive comments for many of them in the first few weeks. She closed it down because of one or two cheap nasty comments. Personally I think she made a mistake...potshots about being a beachcomber and 'seashell seller' are so wide of the mark as to be laughable and as for selling 'tawdry bits and pieces'..well its pure jealousy that says 'far' more about the people sad enough to seek her out than it does about the artist. Most people would give their eye teeth to do a job that was both creative and enjoyable. She maybe a tad eccentric - but who isn't - the people who pretend to be 'normal' are anything but. Some of whom I'd actually cross the road to avoid. A few I wouldn't even allow near sharp objects such as pencils - let alone scissors and knives. One of the most sensible posts you have ever made. I do believe that while Bush indeed may be ignoring Global Warming many states like California are taking much more stringent measures to reduce it. Probably far more than most waffling, sanctimonious European countries. www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20060821-9999-1n21warming.htmlI liked this quote: <<< “Seven years ago, there was no Google. That's how fast Californians can change the world,” Doerr said. >>>

If I was a resident in California I'd be far more worried about living on a fault line than something that - even if true - won't come about till the end of the 21 century. Not that I know for sure. I don't think anyone can be completely prophetic about the future. Just as long as everyone doesn't swallow the Scientific Establishment line which fills newspaper columns and makes for good T.V.. Based on previous evidence gut instinct leads one to be more than a little sceptical. In the 80's we warned of a New Ice Age. In the 90's the Nuclear Weapons promise worldwide peace (in which case we needn't worry about those in Iran & Pakistan : . Half of USA are addicted to 'happy pills' whilst scientists search for more strange disorders whilst walking hand in hand with drug companies. Not all science is bad. It generally works in the small scale but less well on the large scale where scientists get to big for their boots and should be warned against meddling too much with nature.

The same scientists invented aeroplanes and cars, which we all know also interferes with nature. People are more than happy to use them but when it comes to scientists warning of the planet being damaged and any measures taken (to protect their great grandchildren) would affect their lifestyle, nobody wants to hear it.
Par for the course.

The fact is that the Chinese are culturally insular and don't take much consideration of the world as a whole but thats Communism for you. Chinese insularity has nothing to do with communism. It's like saying British insularity has to do with Richard II.
