In all my years living in Germany I saw something last night at a Motorway cafe in Leicestershire that i have never seen before. I had stopped for coffee and was just getting back into my car when a large Mercedes pulled up alongside of me. I was located right at the corner of the building. four men and one woman got out. The woman had a black burqa on, three of the men had traditional Muslim clothes on and all had long beards the fourth was dressed western style and without a beard. The woman went out of sight at the edge of the building and the four men took their shoes off and watches and knelt down to pray ( no prayer mat) they did this head touching the floor three times though for some reason one of thenm did it two more times. I had got out of the car again and took a butchers at what the woman was doing, this from a respectful distance i hasten to add. Well she was also into praying with her head touching the ground. Each to his/her own i say, but it did seem to be rather out of place. The time btw if this means anything was 2015 and I wondered how they knew which way was Mecca. All I could see was a petrol station and a KFC.

Better they pray to their God than the socialist God of incompetence and contradiction, Gus.

Better they pray to their God than the socialist God of incompetence and contradiction, Gus. or the Capitalist god of Greed and Corruption. Do I take your statement to mean that you would prefer an Islamic state than a socialist one. That what you seem to be implying. gus

Sandy was talking about the Guardian on another thread. I suspect you're far too busy reading Readers Wives to read the news, Gus.
I don't blame you to be honest..nothing but bad news, murders, killings and articles about brainless celebrities. Its got to the stage where I'm paying £4 for the weekend news and throwing 90 per cent of it in the bin.

I read that the government is setting up a 0800 telephone number for whistle blowers who will be able to report anyone smoking in a public place when the ban comes into force next summer. Hello Big Brother. gus

Someone asked the owner of a Workingmans Club what would happen if someone reported a smoker. Apparently the Police would have to arrest the entire Club incl. the owner, barmaids and bottle collectors not to mention most of the drinkers.
I'd like to see the Police raid a pub in Moss Side or Toxteth where they're lighting up even more illegal tobacco. It just won't happen..mainly because quite a few of them own guns!

Are you the guy from Malta? do you have Muslims living there? I have sailed with quite a few guys from Malta. One was quite a good friend of mine.sadly as is the way with seaman we lost contact. He spoke Italian which came in very useful in the bars and brothels of Genoa as we sailed into that port quite regular. Is it not strange though when you wonder what happened to so and so and you have no way of finding out. gus

Let the state run everything (presumably like they do in China where babies are kidnapped and traded by state run orphanages and the state run media hushes it all up). How much more of a Big Brother can you get than that? This is what I mean about socialism and contradictions.

If nannying means stoping people smoking in public places they can stick it where the monkey puts it's nuts. If the other hand the nannying means taking care of the sick, the halt and the lame, then bring it on. Of course you sandy and your compatriates on the JSG board will not be able to see the distinction. Btw you might care to hear what the Independent had to say about India the largest capitalist country in the world. Delhi has daily 4 hour power cuts . There is only one runway for a city bigger than London, making incoming planes fly around for up to an hour or even land elsewhere. A 73 km railway in West Bengal. that is still unfinished after 32 YEARS. Now compare that with China, but for God's sake do not tell them on the JSG the shock could have fatal consequences. gus

And the reason is that it affects the health and enjoyment of other people. And it is the money created by capitalism in Britain that has allowed so much money to be spent on caring for the sick. In the miserable days of nationalisation, when jobs had to be propped up by massive subsidies as huge losses were incurred, far LESS money went to care for the sick. I suppose that fact passed you by. As for India the poroblems they are experiencing are mainly due to rampant BUREAUCRACY. Another thing that socialist governments love so much.

Well we are talking about a Capitalist country. The ruling right wing India National Congress Party is not what you would call socialist is it now. This is the same party btw that gave the Brits the Grand Order of the Boot after the second world war. As for the sick, I may be wrong but i have never heard anyone complain so much when it was the REAL NHS and not the privatised fook up it is now. gus
