Years back, I was responsible for designing a piece of kit which used a particular form of capacitor. We built a few prototypes and demonstrated them and eventually production orders started rolling in.
Then I got a phone call from the buying department. The supplier of the capacitors was unable to meet the order (despite promising they could) I called the rep who informed me that the whole of their production had been bought by a far eastern company who needed them to suppress electromagnetic noise emited by the motors in their range of personal vibrators! They had failed EU tests for interference!
Whether the story was true or not, I have no idea. But it took the wind out of my sails completely. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
We found a substitute eventually, but I wonder if users of these devices realise that the reason they could enjoy crystal clear porn on their tellies whilst doing so had cost me an awful lot of hassle and problems.
