A 75 year old man in King's Lynne had been sent to jail for not paying his council tax, you have probably read about it. Normally he would get sackfulls of mail telling him what a hero he is. Well it seems his wife has now spoke up and she said "he's an idiot, I won't be visiting him, he's a silly old .... oh I nearly sweared then"
I bet that took some of the wind out of his sails. ;D

I expect prisons will be full of OAPs when they treble the council tax after the revaluation.

Yes apparently an 'unknown source' paid the bill and he was released.
Now as a cynic of the 'High Order of Chief Cynics' I bet the fine was paid by the authorities to remove any political embarrassment.

This has been done in Ireland and your £2000 a year council tax it likely to jump to £6000 per year, every year until you slit your wrists rather than be cast out from your bought and paid for home.....at least it will save a fortune for the NHS in care for the elderly .

It won't happen before the election because its a ghastly idea - so hopefully it'll be talked about tardily in the same way the fox hunting motion was until they are voted out of Office because one thing the 'Boy Wonder' won't do is allow strangers to traipse all over your house putting a valuation on things. Its absurd.

I am not familiar with this council tax thingy, I pay it and it seems a bloody lot to me. But would council tax apply if one lived in a caravan or house boat?
