I slept on it and the answer came the first time I thought about it this morning. The Magnificent Ambersons. Now do you remember my clue with the bee,etc? I mentioned colours as a clue. The name of the author of the book that the film is based on sounds like a colour. Now that is a right giveaway. Theres only Graham Greene so it must be Brighton Rock although I dont get the first 2 clues at all. Still its a very good film and Richard Atenborough was a far better actor than director in my view. His films are bloomn awful..I mean who the hell has ever watched Gandhi from start to finish.
