Doctor Foster went to Gloucester In a shower of rain,
He stepped in a puddle,
Right up to his middle,
And never went there again. The government have had this information since they were all kids - what's wrong with them? Didn't they take Mother Goose seriously? ....and they say a picture is worth a thousand words.....PAH!

Didn't they take Mother Goose seriously?
Of course they did!
They've spent the last week chanting
"Rain, rain, go away, Come again another day"

from The IndependentEngland under water: scientists confirm global warming link to increased rain By Michael McCarthy Environment Editor Published: 23 July 2007It's official: the heavier rainfall in Britain is being caused by climate change, a major new scientific study will reveal this week, as the country reels from summer downpours of unprecedented ferocity.
More intense rainstorms across parts of the northern hemisphere are being generated by man-made global warming, the study has established for the first time an effect which has long been predicted but never before proved.
The study's findings will be all the more dramatic for being disclosed as Britain struggles to recover from the phenomenal drenching of the past few days, during which more than a month's worth of rain fell in a few hours in some places, and floods forced thousands from their homes.
The "major rainfall event" of last Friday fully predicted as such by the Met Office has given the country a quite exceptional battering, with the Thames still rising. In Gloucester water levels had reached 34 feet, just 12 inches below flood defences the same level as during the flood of 1947 although a police spokesman said last night that the River Severn had stopped rising.

Nonsense! The rain intended for Vienna was diverted to the UK by a mistake in the meteorological algebra.

Brown is currently talking about the floods on the BAT TV, kipper.
He is talking about increasing the money going into flood defences.
A pity the horse has already left the stable at a fair lick.

Sorry but this is a scientific study and not by a quack forecaster, so it is ineligible to mindless deniers.

It maybe 'official' to you but it isn't to anyone with a perspective on historical weather patterns, Its a waste of space and moreover it comes from The Independent aka Newspaper of choice for scientific oddballs.
Instead we have to point towards that bastion of common sense, the Daily Mail to get a less hysterical and reasoned response.
According to Met.Office officials (and Piers Corbyn).
Such rainfalls aren't anything to do with GW (which grasps at ANY change in the weather like a drowning man grasps at straws).
As John Kettley the bluff Yorkshireman informs us 'its just another old fashioned British Summer'. Lets face it, how often have we been deceived into thinking that Summer = basking in 80f+ conditions only to find that we were chasing a mirage.
He takes us on a Historical Mystery Tour through ages past to prove his point:-
Its known as the
In 1976 it produced the opposite effect. Very hot summer in the UK, floods and cold in East Europe (fortunately Darinka is too young to recall this bleak historical event).
Kettley, a meteorologist so renowned that legendary madrigals proclaiming his brilliance have been known to grace the ears (and reach the Top ten) leaves us in no doubt that 'its just another poor Summer. Nothing more nothing less. In fact, something that was the norm throughout the 60's and has been repeated on numerous occasions since.
In fact the present downfall is a mere spring shower compared to the torrential downpours on 1912 - where was GW then?
Its merely part of a 'Natural Cycle'.
The Edwardians went through a period of significant warming with equally mild winters (just like now).
This was followed by a Victorian cold spell...err..Kettley doesnt tell us how long this went on for but one sincerely hopes that it didn't last throughout ALL of Queen Victorias reign.
..it does however explain why she was such a miserable hag stuck up there is Scotland. No wonder a few hot whiskeys with John Brown were deemed necessary, followed by a few nights under a tartan kilt blanket.
Another period of warming throught the twenties to 50's gave way to Cooling in the 60'S and so on and so forth.
Floods are nothing new.
In fact it was all predicted a month ago by Piers Corbyn - with admirable exactitude.
One of the few forecasters who will make long-term predictions is Piers Corbyn of Weather Action, who says his long-range forecasts are based on the theory that our weather is driven entirely by the rhythms of the sun. He warned of a downpour between June 24 and 26, because of solar activity.
He also anticipated “severe thunderstorms, hail and floods” - over July 4-5 (which we had) and worsening for July 10-11 (let's see).
The worst wet periods this month, according to Mr Corbyn, will be in the middle of next week - July 9-11 - and then again from July 22-26. “We are 90% sure both of these periods will include torrential rain, thunderstorms and a high risk of English tornado formations. The most likely places are the Midlands and eastern parts,” said Mr Corbyn.
St Swithin's Day will “not be especially wet”, he said, adding, “it will be a drier day between wet periods”.

More Global Warming nonsense..
Snowless winters forecast for Wales as world warms up Jun 30 2007
SNOW levels in Wales will drop by 80% over the next 70 years with snowless winters increasingly common, experts predict.
National Trust photographs show the permanent winter snowline on the Carneddau Mountains, in Snowdonia, has already disappeared.
And climatologists say that by 2080 there will be up to 80% less snow in Wales.
Who the hell cares about Wales...I feel sorry for the children. No more snowball fights and snowmen..one of the few things that make Winter bearable. I speak with some authority as an expert snowball thrower who manages to knock off a Policemans helmet from a perfect aim, age 8.
Fortunately Corbyn charges to the rescue..
Piers Corbyn, director of London-based forecasters WeatherAction, said the idea that snowfall would drop in Wales by 80% was “complete nonsense”.
He said that although between 1910 and 1998 global temperatures were rising, they had fallen for the last nine years.
“It’s complete nonsense and is not based on any scientific method or evidence. Since 1998 world temperatures have gone down and will continue to decline while carbon dioxide release has been accelerating during that period.”

So glad to learn that the change in climate is due to climate change.
[just spotted silly typo]

They're trying to trick people by calling Global Warming..Climate Change. Therefore ANY change comes under the umbrella of scientific alarmism.
Apparently the word Global Warming was scaring people.

Gordon has decreed that we use "Climate Change" I suppose it's in the same vein as saying "Violent Bomby-Criminals" instead of "Islamic Terorists" - we have to get the language right, according to No.10 !
I can't be bothered to learn another new language ... anyway, it's been more than enough trying to win a Muslim's "Heart & Mind". There's sometimes a muslim at our poker night ...and he's never willing to bet his heart and mind, although he's gone as far as a tenner....once.
Sandy Westerlys: "Brown is currently talking about the floods on the BAT TV, kipper. He is talking about increasing the money going into flood defences. A pity the horse has already left the stable at a fair lick"
That's Accountants for you - when it's all looking like a disaster and life is tumbling around you ...they can be relied on to always come up with an Excel-related quip ....those guys !!
