The Imperial college study revealed to day that we are currently experiencing around 100,000 new infections a day and it is doubling every nine days. The current restrictions are NOT working and infections are rising everywhere in the UK. Unless we change tack, we are heading for disaster as the NHS is overrun. The death rate will rocket.
Now you might think this would bear some discussion. It will affect us all one way or another. France has bitten the bullet and declared a national lockdown as has Germany. But you don't need to go that far. WALES has too! But not a bit of it!
I listened the R4's 'World at One' It certainly got a short mention. About the same as was accorded the sad deaths of the comedian Tommy Ball (of which I have no personal recollection) or the terrorist Attacks in Nice. No. The real earth-shaking news item was the (to my mind) long dead issue of antisemitism in the Labour party and Corbyn's suspension for daring to suggest that much of the furore might well have been politically motivated! Various stridents opponents of Corbyn and socialism were given air time and it went on for about 30 minutes of the programmes 45. Starmer later declared he would not tolerate antisemitism (fair enough. Neither would I) but he would not even dtolerate the denial of it! Just think about that for a bit.
But if there is bad news about, then one can always find something to talk up a bit and bury it. I cannot really blame the BBC. I'm sure they know very well what is required of them if they want to hang onto their licence money.
