I see Boris has been at last pushed into doing the sensible thing with a nationwide lockdown. However, it is quite ruined by being time limited. A number of questions go unanswered.
1. By how much will infection rates be reduced in four weeks. 2. What do we do then? Go back to watching it rise again? 3. When in January will we be expected to enter the third lockdown?
I saw sir David King the chair of the alternative advisory group speaking today. He spoke excellent sense I thought. Clearly a man with an excellent grasp of teh problem and what needs to be done. I imagine Valance asn Whitty are equally clued up but hide it well, seeing their job as being to support the Buffoon standing between them
It seems to me that the right thing is for Boris to declare an infection level and say that the lockdown will be maintained until it is met. This of course doesn't preclude a lockdown holiday over the two days iof Christmas. Any mixing will extend the lockdown period but only slightly. As Prof. King observed, the real control over this disease will be achieved by tracking and isolation. The lockdown is intended to get the infection level down to numbers the track and trace s=ystem can handle.
Pity the buffoon gave Messrs Serco £12 billion to set up a track and trace system which has turned out to be a complete waste, but there is time to set up a more effective one before the lockdown period ends.
