Yes it's that bloody man again. Nicholas Parsons, despite being dead, remains on R4 to irritate anyone who hears his pretentious unfunny6 witterings.
The BBC has seen fit to play recordings of him and his silly quiz show on Monday evenings at 6:30. No doubt they will go on and on and on and on. It is depressing.
Not even the sound of Boris telling us that the "scientific cavalry are thundering over the hill towards" us is enough to cheer one up.

Jonathan van Tam is much more illuminating in his use of metaphor. I'm warming to him.

I wonder if the Scientific cavalry thundering into view are carrying an 'oven ready' vaccine or one you have to stuff yourself?

It is always referred to as "A little scratch" rather than a little prick.
Over the years I've had a few amusing discussions as to whether this is because being scratched sounds less threatening than being pricked or whether it is because the nurse is afraid it will be taken personally.
The one I recall was a few years back when I raised the matter with the nurse during my 'flu jab. "We are taught to say 'scratch' because it sounds more reassuring." she announced. There was a little pause whilst she completed the injection before she added "...but I've had my fair share of little pricks too."
"Oh hard luck!" I said. We were both still laughing when I left.

I had my practice nurse hardly able to do her job a couple of years ago.
We were all in the waiting area for flu jabs and I was called in and said 'would you like an arm or a buttock?' She took a few moments to recover from shaking with laughter and then told me she had a mental image of all the people in the waiting room presenting buttocks.
