Inescapable on the telly of course.
I think we get used to our own politicians and treat them as normal people for the most part. God knows why. Foreign one ones always seem grotesquely unconvincing. I thought the choice of "This land is my land" an unfortunate one, given that the present occupants dove off and killed the previous folks. I expect Israel is copying them, seeing how successful a policy it was.
To the intense disappointment of the news commentators it all went off very smoothly for the most part if you covered your ears for 'lady Gaga's bizarre screeching rendition of the national anthem. It's just as well I am not a national Guardsman. I'd have shot her on the spot after the first two bars.

I detect a common feeling of being utterly bored by the wall to wall coverage of politics wherever it is and whatever it is. People might one day wake up to the fact that regardless of which government is in 'power' life for the general population changes very little, despite the promises of the incoming lot.

I made a point of missing the inauguration because I am averse to pomp and ceremony (our wedding was Registrar Office and down the pub) but rather regret hearing some of the music. I later heard a snippet of the anthem and thought it surprisingly good given it was Lady Gaga singing, but I am no judge. Maybe that snippet was the one good bit?

I think the screeching and gurning (presumably intended to indicate overwhelming emotion) were hard to bear. Singing it straight would probably require more skill too.
But I think that sort of performance is now so common that people have come to accept it as the norm.

Watch this, Exco: all those bits were planned:
This is a parody of the kind of thing you hate (Lisa is a big fan of Bleeding Gums Murphy, who normally plays the sax):

I like Bleedin' Gums when I saw him on one of the Simpson's episodes.
