I got my Amazon account hacked a few days ago. It seems someone in Florida has managed to get access via Messrs Virgin who do my email, and obtain refunds for goods I'd bought! He has also prevented Amazon from being able to send me emails. Both Amazon and Virgin claim this is impossible.
But I think it's more or less sorted now and I haven't lost out, but it's taken me two solid days on the phone to do it, a new bank card, and setting up a new email address just for Amazon and I suspect a degree of rationality.
What I find fascinating is that every single person 'put me through security' before finding they couldn't help me anyway, or passing me on to someone else who did exactly the same thing. Yet despite all this malarkey, it is still possible for a joker thousands of miles away to rip me or Amazon off!
