Back in March, some crook hacked my Amazon account. He had cleverly managed to hack virgin email too so I wasn't getting emails from Amazon. That meant I got no warning whilst they ripped Amazon off by claiming refunds for goods I'd bought. Virgin media swore blind it was simply not possible to stop me getting emails from amazon and eventually the only solution was for me to open a new account with Amazon using gmail, which has worked pretty well. my old account had several thousand books I'd bought for kindle which were placed on permanent hold. There was a convoluted way of accessing them, but by that time I had gnawed off a leg in frustration and simply wanted an end to it.
Yesterday, I found my Virgin email inbox was 'unavailable' - no warning. It took me until this morning to get it back, shortly after which I received an explanatory email from Messrs Virgin.
It seems they had discovered an unauthorised 'rule' set up on my email account. If it contained the words 'from' and 'amazon' it was redirected to - I presume - the hacker. So without warning they had suspended my email account! Until I had sat through 40 minutes of bawling pop music 'on hold' trying to contact them.
Basically it has taken them four months to find something they had assured me was utterly impossible!
I passed the hacker's ID onto Amazon who have unlocked my old account. I now have two amazon accounts. I can't delete one as I'll lose the kindle books I have bought since March.
One can only marvel at ho=w very simple technology has made our lives.
