In M&S today I was served by a middle aged man who was interrupted by a younger colleague trying to take an order from a customer. The problem was that the customer didn't have an internet address. I gathered that this made it impossible to take his order, despite his readiness to pay then and there for the item and leave his address and phone number.
I know its pretty rare not to have an internet address, but I hadn't realised that lacking one was quite so limiting.
The man serving me said he'd come and talk to the customer when he'd finished with me and I thought it a bit nosy to stay and see how it worked out. I was also interested in an elderly fellow who had spent a good 40 minutes examining the same rack of shirts I would have been interested in looking at. He was still there picking them up one by one and looking at them. I was tempted to go and ask him if he was indeed a store detective as I assumed but Mrs E. dragged me away.
Odd things go on in shops sometimes.
