I used to read AA Gills columns in the Times so I thought I'd give DID a few minutes and expected a really the usual Public School, Oxbridge and then Restaurant critic easy life but it turned out to be quite a tortuous journey. He didn't get a single qualification, he spent the years 15 to 30 completely blitzed on drugs and drink and his brother, amichelin starred restaurant owner suddenly told him he was 'vanishing' and hasnt been seen since (a decade ago).

I wasn't really expecting much but I was still there from beginning to end pretty much absorbed in the story. He ended up making porn movies in Hollywood so someone must have been financing him because as far as I could make out he'd never done a days work in his entire life.

He's extremely dyslexic but that probably improved the usual dire scripts. A very witty bloke and the first page turned to in the Times was AA Gill (for the tv reviews more than food critic of course).
