At last the arch-fundamentalist Dawkins and his fellow frothing atheists get their come-uppance. A neat skewering by Rod Liddle. Much mirth at watching befuddled scientists trying to explain away the crimes of fellow secularists Hitler, Stalin and Mao whilst Dawkins mad theory of 'memes' is thrown into the dustbin of history. A virus of 'memes' indeed! - wrap up warm, Dickie and a Merry..whatever it is you celebrate.

No Sandy I still don't know what 'memes' are. And neither does anyone else. So I'm in good company ...I really don't want to get into a prolonged discussion with the likes of Jilona and other frothing posters on JSG.

Nearly missed this one Daz. I didn't know you were skulking around in here.
I haven't the faintest idea what a 'meme' is either. And you are right that there are a lot of pompous asses amongst the scientific community but equally so amongst the religious fraternity.
Take the Bishop of Southwark who managed to get blotto without drinking alcohol. Or was it another miracle?
I hope you read my taking apart of November Criminal ( A decent chap despite his lefty views).
There's just no answer to the question of 'If God exists who created him'?
And if he has always been in existence then why can't the universe always have been there, or at least the physical circumstances that led to the creation of the universe?
So what religious people are doing is just inventing a 'middle man' and giving him/her/it human-like attributes to explain away their doubts, insecurities and fears.
They can't stomach the idea that existence is all chaotic and pure chance.
There you go, that just about wraps it all up for God and not a 'meme' or scientific equation in sight.
Merry Xmas.

Yes, its a circular argument.
It used be everything started with a Big Bang and then people asked what was before the Bang and no-one could answer it, so now a few have come up with the idea that there were a series of Bangs. Then someone asks when was the very first of the Bangs and..erm..
Its a sad indictment that the only person to bring any logic to the question is a forgotten part-time actress and singer with a lisp.

An athletics track has no end either but there are plenty of them about.

No it aint.
You are saying what was the first big bang but was there ever a first and is there ever a last? Just because we don't understand the real physical attributes of time and space does not mean that a simple theory can not encapsulate the whole thing neatly.
Far simpler than inventing nonsense and irrelevancies like Gods.
Gods just complicate matters.

Well not to throw a spanner in your no doubt well thought out nonsense theories, there is just as much justification for God, gods, or little green men for that matter as there are for anything else. So waddya think of that. gus

I rather like Sandy's 'Universal Rat Race Track Theory'..its got something going for it..we're all like rats on a circular wheel, which seems neverending.
Apart from a few gaps when we're allowed off to smell the mistletoe prior to getting back on again.

There is no reason or logic to suggest Gods exist other than in the tiny minds of people who have little or no imagination. Just because people have been fed a load of bull for thousands of years does not make it any more sensible.

Apart from a few gaps when we're allowed off to smell the mistletoe prior to getting back on again. Well we do know quite a lot more than we did 2K years ago. We know that we are all atoms of various elements like carbon, water, etc - the same kind of elements as anything else. So there is nothing special about man. We know about evolution now. We know just how insignificant earth is in the galaxy, let alone the universe. So you would think that people would have come up with a better theory by now and the old ones forgotten about. No doubt they would have but for the control, power, indoctrination and pressure of all the various churches.

You've all got it wrong. It's a Down-Hill Universe and Gravity is the key to understanding it. Haven't you noticed how the velocity of Time is increasing exponentially as it slides down-hill?
