I've just been listening to Richard Ingrams of Thee Oldie being most ungracious about my favourite satirical writer - the incomparable William Donaldson. Professional jealousy seems unable to disguise itself convincingly as a dispassionate critique first thing in the morning. Mr Ingrams feels that William Donaldson is not a worthy/fit subject for a biography, though he grudgingly admitted that for some strange reason lots of people think Donaldson was something of a genius. The Henry Root letters may well be the death of PinkMel one day.....as they send me into the depths of joy, i.e. have me wheezing and shaking with silent mirth to the point where those present hover by the phone wondering when it might be opportune to dial for Emergency assistance. Mr. Ingrams, on the other hand, has never so much as raised a smile from me.

omgomgomgomg!
A book I have actually read!
Henry Roots Letters were hilarious..I still dip into them occasionally, along with Diary of a Nobody which is another favourite.
Not many books make me laugh out loud..I'm sure some of Dickie Dawkins books may have that effect but I don't want to dignify him buy offering him payment. Maybe I'll visit the Library instead.
Spike Milligan of course I've read his -very true - book on WWII ..Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall..so err hats off to Arena!!
Martin Amis makes me laugh as well...I liked "Money".

That reminds me..I invited the Queen to take Tea with me on Sunday. I don't want this to get into the papers but I've written to her because I bear an amazing resemblance to Pr. Charles....if the wind catches me ears I can actually fly several yards. Anyway I approached her about the time my Dad was watching her visit Manchester. She was staying at the Midland of course and my Dad used to drink there.. ..well I sent an invite. Still no word back from Mum.
