I cannot understand why Kenny MacAskill has taken so long to decide what to do with this prisoner. Under normal circumstances, the prison governor receives medical reports and a prognosis which then enables him/her to make a recommendation to Prison Service headquarters who invariably rubber-stamp it. This then goes forward to the Minister for final signature.
I can only assume that, because of the sensitivity of this case, MacAskill is revelling in the publicity and a feeling of self-importance.
IMO Megrahi should be treated just as any other prisoner would be in which case his release on compassionate grounds should be announced today - actually, it should have been announced weeks ago!
I'm afraid the Scottish Government, in the shape of MacCaskill, does not come out of this well and the latter gives the impression of being rather a ditherer.

perhaps he was being put under undue pressure from the US government.....i'm not sure what business it is of theirs if the Scottish legal system routinely treats terminally ill prisoners with compassion.

The Americans have a bit of a nerve complaining about the release of this terrorist after they continuously supported IRA terrorists in the not too distant past.
But I don't believe a word of what the Labour leaders say about this not being related to oil deals with Libya.
