en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CabbageIn the kitchen this morning I noticed a bowl with a plate covering the contents. On top of the plate was a huge pickling jar filled with water, on top of that was an encyclopaedia that needs two hands to lift. What is it cried I. Too complicated for a western european mind to consider came back the reply. It is true. The humble cabbage plays a good part in the cuisine of Central and Eastern Europe. it is indeed fortunate that i love the stuff. In school scoffing my free school dinner the other lads would pile my plate up with it. Yum yum gus

I love cabbage: green cabbage steamed so that it stays green and is slightly crunchy, white cabbage raw in coleslaw, red cabbage with bramley apples, bubble-and-squeak, and the champion of all: saurkraut with bratwurst and boiled potatoes!
But I hated it at school. God knows what they did with it, but it arrived on the plate soggy, yellow, and smelling like ...well, shit.

I have it on good authority that exco stands guard with a shotgun on his allotment, and woe betide anyone who fingers his prize cucumber ;D

My wife cooks a ukrainian dish called as near as i can pronounce it gallopsy. This is white cabbage boiled a bit soft then a concoction of rice, mince, onions, carrots and herbs wrapped in the leaves then put in the oven.
By the way all of you know that beetroot is always used to make borscht but did you know that cabbage is also always used also.

I knew that..but I prefer beetroot in borscht, even though it makes one pee red and asparagus a nice shade of green But you misunderstand me. In borscht one must have beetroot and cabbage. After that anything goes. You all may have wondered what happend to the cabbage being pressed into submission. When I enquired I was informed that it must so stay for 7 days. When I said why not 6 or 8 I was told not to be stupid 6 is to little and 7 is to much. So now I know gus .

Hey ho. I like cabbage. I even like it cold in salads.
