TV Listings: Sky 1 Tonight at 9pm. UK Border Force Staff at the Immigration Removal Centre implement a mass deportation on a specially chartered flight, codenamed Operation Aardvark.
In London an enforcement team investigates the home of a Chinese takeaway owner, while Heathrow officer Steve Hassler faces his last case before leaving for another job. Thanks Trubs. I shall watch it since it doesn't clash with the snooker. Eric

I had to stop watching this. It is a pale imitation of the Aussie system as shown in "Border Security".
For a start, the illegal immigrants were treated like old friends by the so-called professionals with comments like "try again tomorrow". Also, unlike Australia who just turned them round and send them back on the next flight, we actually use specially chartered flights! Unbelievable.
One illegal immigrant who had been in this country for 10 years before being caught had the brass neck to demand a return of all the taxes he had paid.
I do not recommend this programme for anyone of an apopletic disposition.

I do not have Sky so I did not watch, but I do have Freeview (it is built in the set) and I watched some repeats of the Border Force. Whatever your view on immigration, for or against or indifferent, it seems to me that the Border people are not up to scratch. Either their hands are tied or they are pretty useless. I think a combination of both.

For starters I would get all the staff, including those at points of entry, to be in uniform and instruct them to forget all that nicey-nicey stuff. By all means be polite but professional. I would dispense with Detention Centres for Immigrants. Any doubts - next plane back to from whence they came. Any appeals to be conducted from there. Sorted. Eric

Only if the illegal has a passport can they be sent back and as soon as they become illegal they give their passport the old heave-ho and where are they going to send them to? The majority of illegals in this country did not come in on the back of a truck they came in legally usually as tourists, then when the 6 months visa has expired they go illegal. What needs to be done is all tourists who apply for a visa at the British Consul abroad should have their fingerprints taken so that they can be identified if they go awol. But to get back to the Border Patrol they seem to me to be amateurs. We all remember the clandestine as they call illegals hitching a lift on the Border Patrol bus back to England. But watching TV footage of a Glasgow team going into action my jaw dropped. They raided a dwelling in Glasgow that had been reported as harbouring illegals. They all charged in the front door only to find two bona fide immigrants. They were astounded after opening a locked room to find that the illegals had gone out the back window. Now is this normal practice to make a raid and not guard any escape routes. They should all be sacked. Another raid this time in the Isle of Wight rounded up 8 illegals only two could be sent back because they had passports the other 6 were let free and told to report next week... the mind boggles. But heres another thing. Any person found employing an illegal and not paying tax or insurance is liable to a fine of 10,000 pounds for each one. The manager of the restaurant who employed the 8 illegals was told not to do it again and that next time he would be fined. gus
