Of all the CDs in my collection, the one I keep returning to more than any other is a recording of Richard Strauss's "Four Last Songs" by my favourite soprano Lucia Popp. I must have played it literally hundreds of times over the years, and it always gets me emotionally; especially the third song in the cycle "Beim Schlafengehen". Tears well up, and I choke every time. It is so plaintively beautiful.
Which made me wonder if others have a favourite track that affects them emotionally.......not favourite in "I like it", but as in "it affects me like no other"; perhaps triggering a memory, or simply because it is so emotional.
Any takers?
