I hate it. I would love to travel with just a toothbrush in my top pocket but it is not practical. Any tips on how to make it as painless as possible. I always take far more than I need, my suitcases bulge at the seams, and the paradox is wherever I am I end up buying another suitcase or bag 'cos I have now more than when I started out with. I could use someone with a few extra pounds to sit on my case when i try to close it.

You surprise me, Gus. You must have done so much packing over the years, surely you should be an expert. I dunno, chuck in some jocks and socks; shirts and trousers; washing and shaving gear; a few books. That'll do, won't it?

I dunno, chuck in some jocks and socks; shirts and trousers; washing and shaving gear; a few books. That'll do, won't it? My problem matty is that I have no patience, (except in bed, but we can talk about that another time ) I can not fold clothes. I have seen people take a shirt and in a couple of deft movements reduce it to the size of a postage stamp, I exaggerate but you know what I mean. I on the other hand screw things up into a ball and hope for the best. I live in fear of the customs opening my case and me having to pack it again, quite apart from my box of tricks for the ladies that I always have with me gus

Is that a hammer and spade? Good Lord, hammer and spade?? what ladies do you associate with that would require such tools? I can only think that you are a builders merchant, or you are looking for some one to dig your garden. The mind boggles. gus

Still not sure what the spade's for, Sandy. And it makes me feel quite uneasy.

If you're burying bodies, take some quicklime with you. As for the packing, pack once, then leave it for a while. Come back to it and go through everything saying 'Do I really need to take this?' If the answer's 'yes' to everything, you're screwed.
