I am kind of fed up of defending proboards on the various proboard forums around here, but it does seem to me that some people do not appreciate how much it costs and how much effort is involved in hosting forums, especially ones with a lot of traffic.
Proboards are entitled to set their own rules for membership and if you choose to use them provide you with the FREE service they offer you agree to abide by them. This is not in contravention of your human rights.
It is very easy, and relatively cheap to avoid them altogether. You can download your own free forum software from someone like phpbb, or invisionfree and host it using a cheap provider such as dreamhost or if you are really worried about free speech from nearlyfreespeech.
