Looking at your avatar, LMH, for a minute there I thought you'd borrowed my chaise longue.
Brian Cox? Too young to be a professor. A bit girly looking too, IMHO.
[everso dismisses Professor Cox with a wave of her fan]

Oh, I LIKE Sandy Toksvig. She's one of the few women that I think is funny. Should that be is or are?

Take the chicken route Everso, 'She's one of the few women that I find funny.' I do more and more.

Good idea, Alan. Sounds much better.
But should it be is or are? I'm still wondering.

Alan's wondering, as he often does: tits or arse? He lives in France and forgets we pronounce our t's.

It is more complicated than that. In the summer I say bonjour, in the winter it has to be mayung aga, merci becomes salaamat etc. Oh my poor imploding brain!

Interesting. I find Rich and Hoepker's interpretation of the image highly unlikely and...I think impudent is the word; possibly even libellous. I see no reason to suppose these people are "relaxing" - even "apparently"; nor any reason to suppose they're "callous" or "unstirred". I would guess these people would almost certainly be in earnest discussion about what a moment before, and another moment after, they'd been looking at - again, with a high degree of probability, in horror and shock. They're not playing cards, swigging beer, having a picnic, reading the paper...I would say it's obviously an accidentally "inappropriate" image, a photo conveying as photos sometimes do an impression unintended either by the photographer or the photographed. Hoepker must have known that, which is probably the real explanation of why he didn't publish it. And consequently his comments on these people he's been instrumental in misrepresenting are...repugnant.
