Not if the centre rightwing party in Germany the CSU has any say in it. They say that apart fom all other considerations Turkey is not a European country. Well I did read that Istanbul is the only city in the world in two continents.

Theres no Turkey for Christmas then! ...our goose is cooked. Call me old fashioned but I still know it as Constantinople..sounds so much more civilised. I'm sure Mimi agrees with me.

Just for clarification:
Istanbul was Constantinople Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople So if you've a date in Constantinople She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam Why they changed it I can't say People just liked it better that way
So take me back to Constantinople No, you can't go back to Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks
Istanbul (Istanbul) Istanbul (Istanbul)
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam Why they changed it I can't say People just liked it better that way

Does no one care that Turkey is trying so hard to be on the EU team. What you have to understand with a country such as Germany with the most Turks living there than in the whole of the EU put together is that it is a contentious issue here. This coupled with the fact that the two main conservative parties the CDU and the CSU are Christian based parties especially the Bavarian CSU and the fact that a country with an Islamic world view wants to join a Christian EU is anathema to them.

What is so bloody special about EUROPE? The more that are in the less likelihood there will be a of federal state and more likelihood of it being what British people actually voted for forty years ago. A simple fair trading organisation. But even that has not happened. It is not surprising that Germans don't want Turkey in. They have already experienced the joys of mass immigration and don't want it to happen again. But they would be more than happy if Britain, with much less space, were to welcome them all. The Germans are just showing their nationalistic bent as every other country in the EU does. The talk of European solidarity is all a load of twaddle that saps soak up.

If Robert Kilroy Silk is so vehemently anti-Europe then why is he currently on the gray train as an MEP in Brussels?

If Robert Kilroy Silk is so vehemently anti-Europe then why is he currently on the gray train as an MEP in Brussels? Why are all the others allowed to be on it? Why do apathetic chumps allow the gravy train to run with red signals, like referenda, completely ignored? As for Silk, how do expect to stop the train if you are not even on it to apply the brakes?

Bah humbug! Poacher turned Gamekeeper and a hypocrite to boot. Maybe he is but the point still stands. The real hypocrites are the people who work in the EU pretending they are doing good for people, rather than just lining their pockets and those of their friends. Did you know that there are 14,000 lobby groups in and around Brussels? What do you think they are doing?

there was some bloke from Asda this moring on the radio lobbying for Britian to pullout of the EU Common Fisheries Policy that has been a catastrophe for North Sea Fishing. He was arguing for a more sensible managed policy as adopted in other non-EU countries. He must be codding if he thinks he stands a catfish in hell's chance of catching the attention of the EU sharks, whose sole porpoise is to satisfy the predators of Europe. How can throwing 40% of the dead catch back be sensible?
