Women spend more time on the internet than men
Women spent an average of 10 hours and 21 minutes on the internet in April, while men spent only 9 hours and 37 minutes, says a survey by Mediaresearch and Gemius, carried out for the Association of Internet Media and released on June 13.
From the total number of internet users, 47.57 percent were women and 52.46 percent were men. The average number of website visits has shown that women visited individual web pages 976.9 times while men averaged only 867.5.
In April, 38 monitored web servers recorded hits from 1.62 million different Slovak users. Each of the users spent an average of 9 hours and 58 minutes a month on these servers. The total number of Slovak users accessing Slovak servers was 1.76 million.

I find this statistic peculiar. I would have certainly thought there were more lonely men knocking about than women in 2007, and the internet is ideal for those who have no partner, or are indeed looking. I don't use it for that I hasten to add. Also, with the recent media scaremongering of internet danger (it doesn't exist), I would of thought that females would have been switching off in their droves. Perhaps even they understand that the internet is by far and way the safest method of meeting people.

Come off it Chris, women have got to do something when their tongues are worn out.
And no sexual innuendo intended.

i like more personal contact with persons than through internet. i prefer to go out to the nature or by the lake or river than go to the internet. but at work it is the best time killer when i dont have any task.

The internet is a great time killer....and waster! I use it to occupy my time when I'm waiting for Mr Melon to come home for his supper - like now !

CHRIS LORDY: "I find this statistic peculiar. I would have certainly thought there were more lonely men knocking about than women in 2007, and the internet is ideal for those who have no partner, or are indeed looking.
I'm not sure "ideal" is the word I'd suggest Chris. Surely a trip to one's local rug-weaving circle, or a friendly game of mah jong would be better for landing that elusive date?
Brushing one's teeth and shaving is a start !
I don't use it for that I hasten to add. Phew...just in time, I was feeling all stalked, for a moment.
Also, with the recent media scaremongering of internet danger (it doesn't exist), It does ...it lurks around every corner. How many times have we been scared witless by Sandy's ugly mug looming at us from the page - it's like Michael Douglas with his come face on ...brrrr
I would of thought that females would have been switching off in their droves.
Or answering the door in their pajamas
Perhaps even they understand that the internet is by far and way the safest method of meeting people"
Still best to be careful though, Chris. I recommend, if arranging a date with an internet aquaintance, is to meet them under a clock at the station. or summat. Get them to carry a newspaper under one arm, so they can be recognised ( although do not run up to the amputee Big Issue saleman by mistake)
- get their early and check out the dude with binoculars, from a distance. If they have a copy of The Sun...walk away. If they have a copy of The Telegraph...then they are likely perverted, in some manner. If they have a copy of Time Magazine ...they have probably come to repair the station clock and you're looking at the wrong person.
Look the dude up and down...are they well dressed? have they tied their shoelaces correctly? have they tucked their shirt into their pants? All these are good clues to check whether they are "your sort of person".
If they look OKay, then why not talk to them, but without giving away your identity ? "Hello - are you waiting for someone?" "Yes, I am actually" "Are you a pervert, rapist or stalker ?"
This will reveal if your prospective friend has anything to hide.
Other than dress and speech, think about other subtle clues that might giveaway a person's hidden depths.... a small badge or piece of jewellry ... a twitch of facial tic ... a kebab tucked into their top pocket.
Internet friendships can be safe - but so can 15 fireman wearing safety helmets, holding a safety net while reading out health and safety guidelines.

Is it something to be ashamed of. If it is there must be millions blushing right now. Is it any worse than putting an ad in the paper or hanging around a bar hoping something shows up? gus
