I am mortified. There was so much evidence against them and the police had been on their trail for years.
The Jury were not perverse, they were STUPID. How can men who are fleecing old folk to the tune of millions be on benefits?
They let them of those charges too - mind boggling.

I was not there for the lst 2 weeks of the trial as i had to return to work, but from what i could gather was that after 5 days of deliberating the jury shocked everyone by returning the Not Guilty verdicts as they could not make up their minds and erred on the side of caution. It has gone down as a perverse jury decision and there are still people
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously the police are more upset by it than me - it was years of work all for nothing.

I know juries can be stupid but they're directed by the Judge to some extent and if they are obvious con men then it has to be an open and shut case. So either they are fleecing conmen (in which they should be convicted easily) or they are kosher but unscrupoulous and sad to say when it comes to buying and selling people arent interested in the monies you get but how cheaply they can get it. In other words its every man for himself and if you can get away it - they will. It just means they have no morals and no principles but ultimately theyre not guilty. Unless theres a re-trial

found it -
Dealers cleared
Two wealthy antiques dealers have been cleared of deception, theft and money-laundering. Lee Collins, 39, from Brighton, and Mark Duncan, 33, from Buxted, East Sussex, denied undervaluing or stealing heirlooms worth £2 million. The jury at Blackfriars Crown Court was unable to reach a verdict on conspiracy charges.

hmm I hate to say this but that must account for 50 per cent of Antique dealers. Even David Dickinson has spent a lengthy time in jail. Most of them despite daft programmes like The Antique Roadshow are merely wheelers and dealers 'duckers and divers' the majority of people who deal in them are more akin to 'Lovejoy'..they're wheelers and dealers ermm at the risk of sounding like a cracked record I've printed for them. You seem to have come across two of the very worst cases who verge on out and out conmen.
Its an easy way of making money by having a silver tongue and being manipulative plus not having to work. Its a job for the workshy apart from the Upper end of the market who are old Etonians etc.

Its odd..one one hand they're described as wealthy men and on the other as 'knocker boys'.
Its the oldest scam in the book..knock on the door of an old granny 'legitimately' buy her antiques but don't tell her how much they're really worth. Its common practice, hence the reason why - despite Pj's open policy - you should 'never' allow people in you house or even unlock the chain if your old.
