The spat about Irwin had me thinking.
Well it can happen.
So what are your top 5 Dorks.
That is people who have become famous and displayed their dorkness to the world.
Heres' a quick list of mine which I may change. Maybe we could pool the results (if enough people take part) and have a board championship of dorks with 5 points for your top dork down to 1 for your fifth.
1) Michael Jackson. 2) George Best. 3) Michael Barrymore. 4) Paul Gascoigne. 5) Pete Doherty.
I've just thought of Prince Naseem (the boxer). He could oust one of the others.
As could any you lot come up with.
Females can also be included but no politicians (otherwise we would soon need a top 100).

Well your somewhat remiss including George Best in that rabble because he was arguably one, if not them, most skillful and talented sportsman of his age. He was actually quite articulate, bright and witty - when he was sober. Paul Gascoignes a bit of a sad case. I feel sorry for anyone suffering from addiction - thus ruling out both Doherty and Best - and feel even more sad for someone suffering from such a debilitating illness as OCD (I have a highly intelligent cousin whose life is almost ruined by it). So once again, Sandy you show a certain hardness of heart that doesn't sit easily with my views - I can't speak for anyone else. I can't help but feel this is a flaw that keeps letting you down with frequency. You are an intelligent chap but a cold-hearted one..a little more intuition and emotion rather than being hidebound by mere political narrowness of mind is much needed. One you've added this string to your bow you may join the Anointed Ones of my good self, Pink Melon and Gargoyle (I include Darinka despite not strictly an admin member). Dorks? Its a curious slang Americanism. I've no idea where it comes from or exactly what it infers. My own choices for what they are worth would definitely be Prince Naseem..how you can call yourself a devout follower of Islam and then spend millions on mowing down stray pedestrians, spending nights with numerous prostitutes and sniffing coke takes hypocrisy to new hitherto unbounded heights. Quite frankly he could be Moen down by a ten truck lorry and I couldn't care less. He's an utter disgrace and a prime example of why Muslims should be discouraged from entering this country. That may be controversial but if you can point me toward an English boxer who has ever behaved in such a despicable manner I would welcome the chance to hear of it. Jeffrey Archer HAS to be included just for a unique allergy to telling the truth. Bono from U2 has to be incl. for similar hypocrisy in leaving the country to go into Tax exile after spending several years with fellow dork, Bob Geldof telling us to donate all our money to Africa. Ruth Kelly for being a female dork and a member of some bizarre Catholic extremist cult called 'Opus Dei' which has been described as 'a modern day version of the Spanish Inquisition'. Its anti-homosexual, anti-abortion..well anti-everything..how this stupid eccentric came to power defies all belief. Sod her Mensa IQ, she got all the common sense of the type of loony toons who believe in Scientology - in short, none at all! Prince Charles obviously for reasons far too numerous to list...I haven't got all bleedin day! As you can see its a far more accurate analysis than Sandy's. With his usual predictability - something I've never been accused of - he merely picks the 'easy targets' that fill the front pages of the cheap tabloids. You a tad lacking on creative inagination and ingenuity..your choice being all too obvious to an extent that we could have probably guessed the majority of them. I try to be modest and show humility but then I think..why should I? My judgment has no flaw and is beyond all criticism. And with that our condolences and thoughts should reach out to those of Stephen Irwin's family who have following in Irwin's footsteps have espoused the media fripperies and kept it simple. Cheers, Cobber - you were a good bloke and the people already dancing on thy grave should hang their heads in shame.

Naomi Campbell! Yup..but no Russel Crowe. Shane Warne is the greatest spin bowler of all time - wrong! Germaine Greer..once an original thinker and merely because of one timely book has since been trading on it to talk twaddle about all manner of subjects. She has long since had her day and is now a batty eccnetric who should be wheeled off to the funny farm...nevertheless she will do ANYTHING to keep in the public eye, hence possibly the most stupid remark this year - i.e. in the stingray, nature was taking its revenge. What claptrap is that? Last seen being kicked out of Celebrity Bg Brother..its hard to believe but she was even unbearable in the modern version of Bedlam!

Yep, I agree, Shane Warne is the best spin bowler of all time. He's also a complete f**ken d*ckhead, so my nomination stands. And I'll pay you Russell Crowe, though he's been a bit quiet lately... I love this eternal discussion about whether a bloke*'s talent outweighs his d*ckhead tendencies. Salvador Dali; Dylan Thomas; Paul Gascoine; PG Wodehouse (re the ::alleged:: Nazi collaborator stories): does the fact that they had immense talent make it OK that they were ::allegedly:: complete arseholes in other ways? I can't decide at all at all; what do youse reckon? *For 'bloke', please read 'person of either sex', because frankly I can't be arsed wading through all the politically correct bullshit to find out what we're supposed to be calling people this week.

I think theres a confusion between ill people and I count Dali amongst them because were he not a brilliant painter - probably the best technically - he would have been locked up as a complete nutcase.
Gascoigne likewise..he's obviously an ill man with his tics and reslessness and of course George had alcoholism running in the family but his flaws and impishness were what made him great. When EMC said that he didn't mourn Georges death then I can only excuse his words by hoping that he never actually saw him play live and in person. I was only a kid but I knew if Best had the ball because there was an immediate hush of expectancy in the crowd. He was a one off.
Much the same can be said of Alex Higgins. The guy is an utter disaster area but without him there would have been little interest in snooker. Who the fcuk wanted to watch Ray Reardon and Jon Spencer take 5 minutes to decide how to hit a ball with a cue. When Higgins played everything stopped and eveeyone was glued to the TV.
I think Sandy just wants us to die of boredom...he's got half way there by prattling on and on about UKIP and now he is trying to finish the job.

A word in P.G.Wodehouse's defence. The latest documents show that he never collaborated. He was unlucky enough to be somewhere the Nazis could pick him out of. Staying at the Hotel Adlon was not living in luxury (well, it was a bit), it was where they interned distinguished enemy aliens. He didn't broadcast propaganda like Lord Haw Haw, but just silly light-hearted stuff. This was a mistake perhaps but surely did no harm. Yes, I'm biased in his favour because I love his books.
Has Germaine Greer gone off then? I remember liking her very much but that must be several years ago. Haven't come across her recently.

The one way to keep in the public eye and to keep some celebrity is to court controversy. If you've got a regualr column to fill then you have to fill it with something different. Some people can do it and some people can't and she can't because she's slightly batty in my opinion. And joining some celebrity circus is a sure sign of that. Which reminds me..that horse racing commentator is prat, and Vanessa Feltz and some blonde fluff called Anthea Turner. Oh and Chris Eubank although again he was a very useful boxer considering that he didnt have a great punch. Mad as a hatter of course. Possibly let off Wodehgouse, I dont think there is much defence for Maurice Chevalier but then he's French so what can you expect

Daz I think you are unfair to Maurice Chevalier. He was outwardly friendly to the Germans as a front for protecting resistance people. I remember well, long before your time of course, that at the end of the war he was nearly lynched by self-righteous French and had to call on Louis Aragon, the famous resistance poet, also before your time dear, to bear witness that he was OK. This is rather like poor Marie Antoinette and King Canute who are blamed because people got wrong ends of sticks. I sometimes wonder about King Alfred and the cakes.
