The sports board seems to have disappeared since the swapover, so I'll start this thread about Pakistan and their alleged cheating at cricket (if anybody is interested). At least it has relieved the monotony somewhat.
Personally I feell the Umpire Darrel O'hare was wrong to penalise the Pakistanis of ball-tampering without any evidence. He should have changed the ball if he felt it had been done without overtly implying any guilt. Then he could have made his views known later at an enquiry. The TV people found no evidence whatsoever of any Pakistani player doing anything underhand and they had about 20 cameras on the go.
So I do not blame the Pakistan team at all because they had every right to protest about it.
The Umpire should be banned from ever umpiring again in my opinion.
Have you got one, an opinion not an umpire?

Have you got one, an opinion not an umpire? THEY (there were two umpires, Sandy) did change the ball. They penalised Pakistan 5 runs, as is their right as umpires. I'm not a cricket umpire myself, but I imagine professional umpires have enough experience to know when a ball's been tampered with. You say "without overtly implying any guilt". Why the hell would the umpires impose a penalty if they didn't think the bowlers were guilty? Or perhaps you think the Poms had been tampering with the ball, just to make things harder for themselves? Pakistan were penalised 5 measly runs, in a match they were well ahead in. They should have come out, won the game, as they were well on their way to doing, and THEN made their protest through the official channels. What they did instead was to sit in the dressing room sulking and refusing to play, like a pack of naughty schoolboys. Smacks of a guilty conscience and embarrassment at getting caught, I'd say. Remember the 1992 World Cup final at all, do you? They won that with their :magical: reverse swing powers, too.

I dont know really. What we do know is that many sportmen cheat. The apotheosis of which is cycling of course. At least Cricket is clean of drugs and is genuinely skillfull. If it wasnt so boring i might even watch it. Wivens is the next man in to bat so he should rech the boundary better than I have. btw. Man Uts won 5-1..is it the start of a new era! I suspect not really

I have never understood this game. we learnt about it in the school, but the rules are too complicated for me.

What we do know is that many sportmen cheat. The apotheosis of which is cycling of course. At least Cricket is clean of drugs and is genuinely skillfull. More anti-doping testing is done in the UK of cricketers than of cyclists. And for that matter, more than of boxers and of swimmers (both of which one might highly suspect swallow a few anabolic or HGH tablets). So somebody must suspect cricketers of not being as clean as their overalls. The cricketers don't come out any 'cleaner' than cyclists and most other sportsmen (swimmers and weight-lifters excepted) either; last year both cricket and cycling had two suspensions. If it wasnt so boring i might even watch it. Even then I'd have difficulty. btw. Man Uts won 5-1..is it the start of a new era! I suspect not really Oh I don't know - Ronaldo did pass the ball to Rooney (for one of his goals).

Its like baseball really. More than we ever thought - in baseball they get mad about ball-tampering too. In both sports, this apparently means, amongst other things, running your hand down your greasy nose before handling the ball, but doesn't include spitting on it to polish it.

Its not about the number of tests its about the number of drug takers. No-one in their right senses can possibly dispute that cyclists have ALWAYS taken drugs and will continue to do so. To an extent that one post on another board suggested they ALL be allowed to take drugs.
To compare the amount of drugs used by cyclists to those of cricketers is so silly its not worth an answer, Pj.

I'm surprised I'm even having to point this out but cycling doesnt require any skill unlike cricket and generally drugs do little to enhance skill.
The opposite is the case re. endurance sports. No skill is required.

I bet Botham & Viv Richards enjoyed a few joints after the match.
And as for Shane Warne..well.
The difference is that theyre just everyday stuff after arduous effort. Reminds me of the US Golfer who was always drunk. I mean it made him play crap not better...he went from No.1. to a zero in years.

I'm not stirring the pot, man, its plain common sense. Anyway you were pretty insistent that Lance Armstrong was on drugs as well and how many times has he won the Tour? I admit SHASTABLASTA (or Jac & Novo as she's known) doesnt need any drugs. I'll definitely concede that point!

I'd gladly debate the issue with Al and Novocaine but I'd warn or even Warne them that they wouldn't last 5 minutes. They're naive, pure and simple.
