<< That;s the point -- he wants to be in booting no-man's land between goal and midfield. That's not anyone's job really. >>
Well its not Lampards job, thats for sure.
Its arguably the most important role in the team although having a dodgy goalie is always a liability.

DAZZENITEZ: "Abramovitch expects a better return for his outlay - and more entertainment. i.e. we're STILL not on a par with Man Utd. That would seem reasonable enough were it not for his constant meddling.
Ah ...well there you are. Abramovich has discovered that not everything can be bought with a cheque. (excepting, of course Russian People's issued share in State Russian Oil. He managed to but those up with a an IOU and a handfull of nectar points.)
For him it's just a very very expensive train set .. and he want's to wear the Fireman's hat all the time.
He does not appear to realise that he is merely the owner - NOT the Manager. Lets call it quits. 50/50
No such thing as "merely" for an Oligarch. The team are lucky he doesn't run on the pitch and snatch the ball up and walk off home in a huff "it my ball !..... and I'm not playing! "

Arsing about with pot shots from 40 yards is nobody's job. It's just a once a quarter gift, that comes around to various players, ad hoc. The hoofers that are determined to run at crowded boxes and always whack one off ... are hardly reliable finishers to a decent build up. Lampard's changing his name Lampski, this very weekend.

He's not Beckham either now or in his heyday but Gerrard is the one World class player we've got. Not a hoofer. but lets me ask you, Kip...why don't YOU pick the team. ;-)

DAZZ 'MAD' MADRIGAL: "He's not Beckham either now or in his heyday but Gerrard is the one World class player we've got. Not a hoofer.
He may have been World Class for a season ... but it's gone now. What will add salt to Gerrard's woes is his fitness/pace diminishing. Can't be helped ... he's 28 or summat now, and that's when it rolls off. Without his good stride, his value will get even less. He gets caught with the ball too much as it is. If you can stand it, look at the times Ronaldo gets caught with 2 left feet ( I know - very tough to give that little sh** his due ... but he's slick) - and he is not employed as a 6 yrd box person , supposedly he's there to feed in from the general pre-goal area.
but lets me ask you, Kip...why don't YOU pick the team. ;-)
Ahhh ... that's the sort of question every Armchair Manager wants to hear ! :-)
Well, you know, I'd have to do some real work ... and have 20 staff nobbing off to obscure matches all week.
But. I think I would start by having the balls to try some new/underused and excellent talent - that's where I'd start. Gareth Barry was a good punt (for once) but there's many more young guys around ( at Villa, Spurs, Weast Ham, Reading, Arsenal etc) Why hasn't Walcott been out more? Sending on Wright-Phillips for 5 minutes isn't Management ( or a good idea, most times)

Chlesea play Champ League in awhile - Valencia ... and it's going to be a sad outing, imho.
Avram Grant must feel good - He's like the Office Temp - 2 days into the job, they're left on their own for an afternoon ... and the office catches fire during lunch !:-)
I predict that Abramovich is already looking for some other investors this very week. He doesn't need the cash ... but he wants to know where the exit door is, just in case there's a fire ....
-------------
"Michael Owen gets twinge - SHOCK" - Owen looked shagged again on Saturday .... when is someone going to admit that his injuries and weaknesses are now inherent. Shame, but he will never peak again.
------------
Why is Tottenham so very interesting to watch .... and have really colourful talent ... but often bugger up ?

As predicted Owen has more serious stuff than just a "twinge"
So BALDY has: Heskey on foot injury Owen hernia-erd Beckham knee injury ( blimey, those Yanks must be really peeved aqt the price now) Gerrard still whining on about toes Lampard out(ish) Rooney might be back.... might not. Neville's shakey
Rumour is looking at West Ham's Ashton ... as viable as any other imho.

Spurs v Middleboro
Again, the young Spurs team were just so fresh, exciting and entertaining ( I never thought I would ever say that about Spurs)
It probably comes from a deperate need to buy up, semi-inexpensive young talent ... but Spurs have such a great bunch of colourful players. I don't think it Martin Jol - he always comes across as a bit of a thosser, although he must have some skills.
BALDY McClaren was in the crowd - you get the feeling he was watching Defoe (who was subbed off) I hope not - Defoe doesn't really want to finish - he never has delivered to the very end and thus his scoring record is poor. I hope BALDY noticed Lennon (again) and Huddlestone, even Jenas
Spurs -- if they only had finish and defence , they'd be as attractive as Arsenal are at the moment
--------------------------
Man Utd 0 Cov 2
Well Coventry are going to bleat about this for seasons, but they're not at all interesting. What IS interesting is how long the great british public and press will continue to be in awe of the sleeping, gambling, greedy, inconsistent pensioner-with-a-temper-tantrem: Alex Ferguson. This tosspot is now officially disconnected with the daily grind of Football - which means : detail, plans, heart, desire-to-win,and inspirational strategy. Ferguson simply needs a small accident in the ManU car park, which will puit him in hospital (say , fractured ankle) for enough weeks for the management and team to wake up to this bullshi**er's flim-flam. He's been riding a 10 year bus based on his bombast and flannel - and it's our fault, for being such weak little pipsqueaks that we, yet again, allow the over-confident loudmouth to have their day ( see John Prescott, Alan Sugar, Terry Venables, Peter Mandelson, Hazel Blears, Rumsfeld, Giscard, Mike O'Leary etc etc)
I'm looking forward to the front page spread, where Ferguson is being kicked up the arse by Roy Kean outside a Manchester hotel - long wait, unfortunately.
Perhaps we can sneak some super glue into his gum ....

ManU fluke it with Birmingham win. £14 zillion quid of players and they can only just beat a bunch of short-sighted Midlanders.
Fergo The Pathetic increases his reputation, after the Carling Cup debacle, to that of an OAP feeding coins into the bandits in Vegas.

Chelsea's new Manager is "totally right for the job" :-) The most expensive seat-warmer since Marks and Sparks went into furnishing.

Utd need a goal poacher basically.
Then again pre-season potential singings Torres and Balatov are both off form for Liverpool and Spurs, so we'll get the goals from elsewhere in the team for now.
I'm not sure its good enough to win the Euro Cup.
We're pretty blase about the rest. In fact I'm sick to the back teeth of winning the League. Who cares?

DAZZ BOOT: "Utd need a goal poacher basically.
I thought that was Rooney at one time, then Saha .... then is it Park? Is it Brandy from da yoof team ? Didn't Fergo sell Nistelrooy ? Van could only cook an egg one way - poached, fer Gawd's sake. Fair enough, Van Shergar was annoying and, according to Fergo, pass his sell-by date .... but that hasn't dstopped him being top scorer elsewhere. What, therefore is Fergo's skill ? Team Selection ( 1 st team??? ) Strategy (Carling Cup?) Purchases and Disposals ( Van Nist ? Dong? Beckham?)

I don't think Fergo is the man to achieve it - the team have no leader.

Sod the League -- it's a load of tosh ... "we won by 4 clear points" what does that mean ? Too many games, too many inadequate opponents ( WIGAN ... WIGAN ! What t f are Wigan doing in any league ...Derby & Joan ? Bolton !!!! ) too long. Euro Cup IS THE ONE ... and only a nob wouldn't know that.

Nistelrooy is still scoring goals and Jaap Stam is still a very able centre half. I think Van the Man got disgruntled after the passes dried up via Beckham. If nothing else, Becks was an excellent passer of the ball to feet. All goal poachers like the ball to feet...whilst others are equally scared to death of it because they can't hit the net. In fact some of them couldn't hit the floor if they threw a hat at it.

ManU 1 Roma 0
Well ...there it is again - all the players have the talent...but Patrol Leader has gone off to the races again.
All these lads are stuffed with talent - it's all there ... but there's no committment to a PLAN. Because there is NO PLAN.
That's why Mourinho will be sorely missed ... he ALWAYS had a plan...even if that meant some ginding matches. Sven has plans .... that's why he's not half bad, as long as he can keep his trousers on.

There's no target man y'mean.
Oddly unexciting for a Man Utd match. Saha failed to do the business again but things looked up when he was replaced by Tevez.
Kenneth Wolstenholme is dead. Or is he?
Odd Dazfact.
My Aunt used to serve him at the local Chippy...Kidds on Langworthy Road. Ken was a staunch Utd fan but never let it show in his commentaries. A true pro.
I think its all over..
It is!
now.
