And obviously WE are looking for 'whats not' cos thats the type of people we are. A little bit whimsical...wry smile..a touch of the Third Man (gets out his zither..slides up and down it gently and gracefully...oils it.... ..runs down a sewer ).

That first one is awfull (potential first dance at weddings though I s'pose). Second one - not much better, but I can see it could work as a lullaby - ZZzzzzzzzzz Really liked the last one, Pete Droge - "Going Whichever Way" - great harmonies, nice tune. The other 3 songs are v. good too, yep I like this a lot (playing now). Much better than Mr Mullins imo, thanks for the link.

Funny – ‘Going whichever way’ is the song I like least of all... ;D
My favourite is ‘Small time blues’. ‘Skywatching is quite a good album, but I liked his first best (Necktie Second). ‘Straylin Street’ is fab.
But if you don’t like Mr Mullins, I doubt you ‘d agree about Necktie Second.
On the other hand, you might like The Thorns (Droge, Mullins, Sweet). Dunno.

I actually liked all four of them, but had just finished listening to 'Going' when I typed. I just thought the songs themselves and the arrangements were much stronger than Shawn Mullens stuff, which seemed very formulaic to me, but there ya go. I have heard 'The Thorns' some time ago - Matthew Sweet is in them yeah? In the same area, I really like the feel of this, not necessarily a great song but something about it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj9UKqFM6Lo

I bet you pour cheap plonk down the drain as well, whereas /I/ would rather drink it.... ;D I quite /like/ cheap plonk. Well as long as it’s not poisonous.... profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=35092774Gosh he has done some shite songs in his time. But he’s also done a lot of good ones. I liked ‘Human Wheels’ (the album, not the song). Or.... profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=62381950Not exactly cheap plonk, just rather bizarre at times. Some of Jackie Leven’s stuff is unbearable, but ‘Fairy tales for hard men’ was a great album, all in all. And some other of his poetic stuff. ‘So my soul can sing’ is rather…err…poetic. ;D Incidentally, does anyone know what became of Simon Wilson, of 29 Palms? Shame they only brought out 2 albums. It was so commercial, Troy Domockley even said he was going to have LAPHROAIG tattooed across his chest. ;D But they did some utterly charming songs - Ivan Ho! for example. Sim’s sis is still going though....hmmm..... profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=55347599////I have heard 'The Thorns' some time ago - Matthew Sweet is in them yeah?/// Yes. And he is mates with The Jayhawks. It’s all one big happy family..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5Yps-NLzm4&mode=related&search= ////In the same area, I really like the feel of this, not necessarily a great song but something about it///// Well there is a time and place for everything. I save this one for when I feel like slitting my wrists..... No seriously, it’s alright initially. Bit too much after a while....

Tch! Don’t be so bloody snobbish! I bet you pour cheap plonk down the drain as well, whereas /I/ would rather drink it.... ;D Although i'm a snob, I'm also quite poor, so cheap plonk is all I know - 2 bottles for a fiver round here Surprised myself by liking the John Mellancamp tracks, Jackie Leven also good, I haven't heared much of his stuff, although a friend used to play me Doll by Doll albums which I see came out on cd this year. Not me Emma Wilson was ok, well a bit ordinary really, from those 4 songs I can't see why she's described as Psychedelic Very happy indeed. Here's a couple of my myspace 'friends' you might like - maybe. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=34755271Actually this is also a real friend of mine: profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=127220083

Join the club! ;D ////Emma Wilson was ok, well a bit ordinary really, from those 4 songs I can't see why she's described as Psychedelic//// I don’t like it at all. Just came across it a while back when trying to find out what had become of the 29 Palms members. ‘Defenseless’ was on 29 Palms’ ‘Fatal Joy’, and I like it much more then – it was very different. But I /did/ indeed like your links. Especially Jenny Lindfors. Thanks! Will remember that.... Here are another two ‘relatives’ of the Droge/Mullins/Sweet clan – it must be the name: PETE/R…… profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=126517226www.myspace.com/peteyornAnd these two are touring the UK in May (....well some of the UK anyway). Their gigs are supposed to be fab. I can certainly see why - even on TV they were good.... www.myspace.com/rodrigoygabriela

I'm not keen on 3 chord garage band unless it has a distinctive twist to it..usually a gutteral vocalist with something to say like od Strummer or Childish..girl vocalists sometimes make it more bearable. Otherwise it sounds a bit samey doesn't it.
I'm having to work my way back through these songs I agree about the Rodrigo (?) but lets face it theres nothing to dislike. Its easy to listen to and very well played and with no singer to complain about.
Its the type of cerebral well played stuff that is probably played the majority of the time. I mean I like listening to Steely Dan but for some reason that stuff isn't fashionable - which possibly explains why it IS good.
Anyway its just music at the end of the day..
