Well here i am in the Poconos mountains breathing the fumes of the 4x4s that got us up here, but it really is beautiful scenery and I think no wonder the Americans are so proud of their country. I find that next week before Christmas we are to go to Ellis Island to see if there are any 'huddles masses' there, see the Statue of Liberty and a few days later down to Washington DC .

Hello again you Brits and Britesses. Will you forgive me for not posting but i have just returned from Washington DC and i hope you will again forgive me for telling you how much i enjoyed it. Yes i know i have taken every opportunity in the past to knock America and as for the nations politics I shall continue to do so, but the American people are a delight, they are so friendly it is almost unbelievable. The Vietnan Wall commemorating the dead was a sobering sight and my brother and sister in law complained bitterly about the amount of security arrangements that have been put into place since 9/11 but apart from that it really is a city worth visiting.

Went out today to do some last minute Christmas shopping, horror upon horror, the roads were full, the stores were full, but no road rage and no store rage. I also learned that it is not a shopping trolley it is a shopping cart, such are the wonders of America ;D

Ahem! are you not all being a little premature withyour Christmas wishes. I believe Christmas day is on Monday is it it not?. Seattle airport have took all their Christmas trees down to please the atheists who protested about it. Way to go atheists, soon we will have no Christmas at all.

Well I just read a very interesting article comparing living in the UK with the USA and it makes interesting reading but its a bit much so the last sentence usually sums things up pretty well.
We don't actually see any police very often (in London) because, to the best of my knowledge, we only have one officer covering a community of 6,000 people. A good friend of mine who lives in the New Jersey suburbs tells me that if an unfamiliar car even loiters on his street, he can get the cops out within a few minutes.

My brother tells me though that since 9/11, security and the enforcing of it has become big business. gus

Another snippet, A main store in Chicago has took it's traditional Nativity scene, you know the one with the stables and the babe in the manger, down after protests from Atheists. Right on. gus

Looking through the local paper here i was amazed that there are four full pages of churches inviting you to their services. Some denominations i have never heard of. such choice.

Someone actually pointed out two Policewomen walking down the road and pointed out 'look at that..the Police..walking!!'. They have to walk round in two's for some reason. They were actually no bad looking. Some people would actually throw a brick through a car window and then wave them over saying come on then frisk me!..well I wouldnt but some would. Better than Toyah Wilcox, Gargs..well past her sell by date!
