You need to eat regular, small meals Billy to keep your blood sugar from dipping and raising swiftly. Eat all the boring stuff - fruit, vegetables, wholemeal bread, cereal, oatcakes, porridge -as these provide slow-burning and thus more stable blood sugar. Avoid anything with sugar, fruit juice, mashed potatoes, as these foods cause swift and unstable rises in blood sugar. In terms of alcohol, it puts blood sugar down swiftly, so drink spirits with full-fat mixers (ie. vodka and coke, NOT diet coke). Take plenty exercise and you'll be fine. Diabetes - the disease that makes you behave. hmm thats interesting. Its EVERYTHING I don't do...I eat large meals and never snack..1 large during the week and 2 during the weekend. Exercise..I did enough in my youth to last err..a lifetime..or so I thought. Without a round ball exercise is very tedious. Drinking..well er..a bottle of red never did any harm

Don't start worrying yet, Daz. Blood sugar can be high without diabetes. All the same, if it turns out not to be diabetes you might be advised by the doctors to cut down on all the nice things. Take no notice. Take no notice!!!! Wise advice as always, Mimi.

Billy - the one and two big meals thing is really the worst thing for your blood sugar.
You should aim to eat about 6 small meals or snacks over the course of a day. Seriously.
If you really are just eating like that, then that might explain the crap blood sugar without there being any underlying disease.
It can't be too bad anyway. Most diabetes is diagnosed at the first blood test, because undiagnosed diabetes has the blood-sugar meter running off the top of the scale.
Also, other symptoms of untreated diabetes - thirst, weight loss, getting up to pee in the night without reason. Any of these going on? If so maybe you should be worried!

What I really want to know about is re. blood tests.
They never mentioned once not to eat or drink prior to the test.

I wouldn't do anything different to normal Daz. Surely they just want to do that pricking your finger thing for blood sugar?

Nah..apparently its a Govt..initiative to test everyone. Anyway apparently its important that you don't eat or drink a few hours before the blood test but I did..which begs the question..why didnt anyone mention it or even mention it for this 2nd blood test. I'm confused about that really..am I supposed to know not to drink or eat prior to a blood test? How the hell do I know?

Never heard that you're not supposed to eat or drink before blood test!
I suppose a recent meal or drink would put your blood sugar up a bit, but if you were diabetic it wouldn't make much difference as your blood sugar would be above the normal level anyway.
If you're not diabetic then your pancreas works, and your blood sugar would not go above the normal level.
Certainly with type 1 diabetes, which is the one which requires insulin therapy.
I'm not so sure about type 2, which is the adult-onset one that can be controlled with diet and pills as the pancreas is still working a bit, just not well.
Are you very fat Billy? Very fat people are prone to type 2.

OMG..I'm panicking, Sandy. How do you avoid erm..diabetes. Hmm.. slightly raised sugar levels. What does that mean? I'm thee local expert on Global Warming Daz not diabetes but you could cut down on mowing down pedestrians and get your plumbing checked out, if that helps.

'Ullo Gussy! Good to see you. Fetch us back a carton of marlboro will ya, darls? ;D Daz, sorry you're crook; I hope it turns out to be summat and nowt. Down 'ere there's two kinds of blood test - the normal one, where they just whip out the big ugly needle and ram it in yer arm on the spot; and wot they call "fasting blood tests" - for those they give you a referral to the vampire clinic and tell you to rock up first thing in the morning, and not to eat or drink anything beforehand. You should've been told, Dazza

I think if I had to choose just one word to describe the Ukranians I would choose the word fatalists. But I expect if you have lived all your life under Soviet communism one would tend to be a fatalist. The electricity goes off at regular intervals the water supply goes off but it seems they are so used to it that they just wait for it to come back on again and carry as usual. For whatever reasons the gas supply never seems to go off. Yesterday evening we came back after visiting friends in something called a Dacha only to find that the lights had failed, my girl friend just lit some candles and never even mentioned it. I would have cursed the government, the electricity supplier, pulled my hair out and kicked the cat if it happened in England, but no one seems to let things worry them here.
